Quaker Minutes and Marriage Records contain the following entry: "1794, 4, 3. John Goldie, s Wm. Wyatt & Priscilla Fentham, Phila., Pa., m Susanna Garrigues, dt John & Sarah, Phila., Pa., at Phila. Mtg." Charles Garrigus, auther of "The Garrigues Family in North America", (Tenessee Valley Publishing, 2000), feels that this entry is in error in identifying the parents of Susanna Garrigues. He feels that she was the daughter of Isaac, son of Samuel and Mary (née Knowles) Garrigues. He cites Edmund Garrigues and "The Garrigues Family in America" but offers no specific source citation. It should be noted that there are discrepancies in Mr. Garrigus' work pertaining to the marriage of Hester Taylor into the Garrigues family. He has listed a marriage between Hester Taylor and Isaac Garrigues in two separate instances. The first on page 4 with Isaac son of Matthieu and the second on page 9 with Isaac son of Samuel. He has both Isaac Garrigues listed as having married a woman named Hester Taylor on July 1, 1763 in Old Swede's Church. It appears very likely that Mr. Garrigus has mistakenly duplicated this union. I believe that the Hester Taylor married Samuel Sr.'s brother Isaac and not his son. I also believe that the Quaker Marriage record attributing Susanna to John and Sarah is probably correct. These records are sometimes mistaken about specific dates but to date they have been accurate about parentage.
